At ALPLA, we use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency, innovation, and sustainability in packaging solutions. We are committed to deploying AI responsibly, ensuring that its development and use align with our values, respect individuals, and support trustworthy business practices.

1. Human-Centered AI

AI at ALPLA supports people rather than replacing human judgment. We ensure that critical decisions remain under human oversight, employees understand when AI supports decision-making, and AI augments expertise in engineering, manufacturing, and operations. Human accountability remains central to all AI-enabled processes.

2. Transparency and Explainability

We strive to make AI systems understandable and appropriately transparent. We commit to clearly communicating when AI is used in business processes, documenting how AI systems are developed and deployed and ensuring internal stakeholders understand AI-driven outputs when they affect decisions. Transparency builds trust with employees, partners, and customers.

3. Fairness and Non-Discrimination

4. Privacy and Data Protection

Responsible AI requires responsible data practices. We ensure that personal and sensitive data are handled in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation, data used for AI is collected and processed for legitimate purposes and appropriate safeguards protect data confidentiality and security.

5. Safety, Reliability, and Quality

AI systems must perform reliably in operational environments. We commit to testing AI systems before deployment, monitoring performance in real-world use and ensuring AI supports safe operations in manufacturing and logistics. Where risks exist, safeguards and fallback procedures will be implemented.

6. Accountability and Governance

Clear responsibility is essential for responsible AI. ALPLA will assign ownership for AI systems and their outcomes, maintain internal governance for AI development and deployment and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including the EU AI Act where applicable.

7. Responsible Innovation

AI should create positive impact for our business and society. We aim to use AI to improve manufacturing efficiency and quality, support sustainability initiatives and circular packaging solutions and enable data-driven innovation across our global operations. We avoid AI applications that could harm individuals, communities, or the environment.

8. Implementation

To operationalize these principles, ALPLA will establish internal AI governance and review processes, provide guidance and training for employees using AI tools and periodically review AI systems and associated risks. Responsible AI is an ongoing commitment that evolves with technology, regulation, and societal expectations.
